Steven Marc Trier is an American composer, producer, and recording artist whose work brings together classical training, soulful expression, and a lifelong passion for helping artists find their own voice.
He founded Aureus Music, Inc., an independent record label and production company in Greenbrae, California, in 1994. His approach centers on understanding an artist’s vision and developing a sound that reflects their individuality.
Steven began studying piano at age three and composing original music at eleven. His early immersion in the Romantic repertoire, particularly the works of Frédéric Chopin, shaped his sensitivity to melody, phrasing, and emotional storytelling. He studied piano with Dr. David Hatch, received mentorship from Sir Wladimir Jan Kochanski, and trained vocally with Reinhardt Krekow, MFA, and Edward Sayegh.
A seven-year apprenticeship with David Freiberg of Jefferson Airplane and vocalist Linda Imperial deepened his experience in recording, arrangement, and production. That foundation continues to inform his work across pop, soul, and ballads, alongside the creative influence of artists such as Prince.
As a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Steven writes, arranges, produces, and performs his original material. As a collaborator, he helps emerging artists develop their compositions, refine their performances, and carry their songs from an initial idea through the finished recording.
Central to his philosophy is respect for artistic independence. He advocates for artists retaining ownership of their compositions and master recordings while developing the knowledge to make informed decisions about production, release, and distribution.
Whether creating his own music or helping another artist realize a vision, Steven brings the same guiding intention: to make music that communicates honestly and connects emotionally.
